In what is quickly developing into a major diplomatic incident, it appears that United States soldiers massacred unarmed Chinese soldiers while protecting the town of Taechon against a North Korean attack. Members of the 75th Ranger Regiment are implicated in this killing, and according to reports given by Chinese survivors the army “Attacked after the soldiers had clearly identified they were unarmed”, according to China’s Xinhua state news agency.

The U.S. army pushed back early this morning, alleging that the soldiers had identified the troops had been carrying weapons such as grenades and knives. Additionally, it appears that the Chinese soldiers were followed closely by North Korean soldiers, who may have been using them as human shields, as shown in U.S. army photographs taken at the scene of the massacre.

This event may have drastic ramifications for U.S.-Chinese relations, as tensions over the Korean peninsula escalate to a point not seen since the Korean War. Both powers have deployed significant aid and troops to bolster their allies in the conflict, and the risk of an all out war seems to be increasing quickly.
